I’m so done with feeling SUPER tired all the time. I am living a great life, but feel like I don’t have the energy to enjoy it to its full. I feel bad that I don’t have the energy to bring for playing with my kids in a way that would bring the magic.
I’m done with the brain fog, the poor memory and all the things that go along with that.
I am trying to work a job, build a business, raise two kids and keep a house running. And I’m doing it on broken sleep.

I’m going to give the keto diet a crack and I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.

I'm recruiting a small team of volunteers to join me on building this thing from ground up. The foundations are laid, and there are a raft of exciting initiatives for the team to sink their teeth into from the get go.

So instead, I'm going to plug someone else's project for change. Food is Free is simply one of the the most wholesome community organisations that I know. This fundraiser will be an intimate and inspiring afternoon of goodness, and is being catered for by one of my favourite caterers, Sara Kittelty.

I pop a link in the comments - can't recommend getting to this enough through. Food is Free will take every fund raised and I swear will turn that dollar into priceless contributions straight back to the community ten fold.

I’m always so stoked when she does this that I honestly can’t help but make her requests right there and then (yes, I’m a sucker).

I recently put in an application for the Kickstarter Challenge, an accelerator grant for female entrepreneurs. This slide was in my pitch deck, and I think that it is probably my best attempt to date to distilling down the bigger picture of what I am aiming for my Lunchbox Heroes project. Yes, on one hand they are just a deck of cards - but the moments of connection and ritual that they can provide is real.

So no two dinner times are ever the same, but they are always chaotic. Tonight’s dinner was a recipe out of a coles magazine, with a few additions. Herby bbq chicken, mushrooms, asparagus, halumi and zucchini also done on the bbq, brown rice and a creamy asparagus and spinach sauce. It was all bloody delicious of course. The 9 month old ate 90% of his, and the 2 year old ate about 10%.

Obviously we encourage her as best we can to eat- but today just wasn’t a dinner day for her. She had had a big lunch and wasn’t in the mood for experimenting. And that’s ok.

I don’t make any alternative- she doesn’t eat dinner, well tomorrow is a new day. But regardless the most important thing I can do is to keep putting the right things on her plate and leading by example. More often then not- she comes back to it and starts nibbling away in her own sweet time.

One of the important things I thought about when planning the catering items for Naturally Sweet, was to make sure everything still felt fun. These foods are designed to accompany celebrations after all. So yes - I have these handmade, fresh to order, sugar free, organic gelatin, good for the gut, naturally coloured gummies available to order from my website.

When I was growing up I loved fruit roll ups and they would often be in my lunchbox. I now know that the store bought roll ups are hardly the healthiest option. Don’t be fooled by the packaging that says ‘made with real fruit’ (it’s only 24% fruit concentrate) and no artificial colours or flavours. The store bought roll ups have 17 separate ingredients, including added sugar, with maltodextrin being the primary ingredient. (Maltodextrin is a highly processed derivative of corn starch that spikes blood sugar quickly.)

And you know what - store bought roll ups aren’t event cheap averaging at nearly $1 per roll up.

The good news is that you can make these tasty treats at home, packed with fibre and antioxidants with only ONE ingredients (or two if you add in some lemon juice to keep the colour vibrant.)

The recipe I use I’ve costed out to roughly $0.17 for each roll up, but the best cost saving? No cost to your kiddo’s health!

My bergamot juice and marmalade arrived! Continuing to be in awe about this fruit that I’ve only recently discovered (but have been consuming in my Earl Grey tea for years). Yes, the juice is SOUR, but I mix it with some mango juice and 👌. The marmalade has a unique taste, but no where near as sour as I thought it was going to be given the flavour of the juice. Had a busy weekend delivering catering to a couple of different families with busy momma’s. got the chance to cater for this lovely 3rd’s bday with a few of the crowd favourites including the Sugar Free Choc Dipped Strawberry’s, homemade pizza, and Gutsy Gummies. @mama.duck.said

I also delivered 4 dinners off to another mumma who was going away for work for the week and wanted to make sure her kiddo still ate nourishing, wholesome vegetarian food while she was away. Not part of my usual services- but if you do have any special requests like this, just ask! If I can do it, I’ll probably say yes!

I’ve been loving @donna.hay recipes of late. (Seriously, how am I so late to come to the Donna party?!) This carrot cake I made came out of her Basics to Brilliance: Kids. Made it for a local along with a stack of vegetarian meals as part of a requested meal delivery package to help out her health conscious mum and toddler while she was away.

While this was different to my usual party menu, I honestly loved the chance the pull out a stack of my favourite vegetarian recipes and made plenty for both the client and my own family so we’ll be sorted for meals for the next week.

The meals I made were:
Roasted pumpkin macaroni cheese with walnuts and sage
Mushroom and lentil bolognaise
Black bean chilli nachos with guacamole
Sweet potato and lentil shepherds pie

(Shout out to the the amazing A Shared Table cookbook by Claire Scrine for these)

I had another order for a bday party for delivery the same day and was so damn busy cooking this is literally the only photo I took. But out of curiosity- do these dishes sound good to you? Are nutritious home made dinners something I should be looking into??! Let me know in the comments. I’m too tired and new at this to know 😅

Eating well at home is one thing when I have access to my pantry- but I NEVER leave the house on a mission for over an hour with the toddler without a snack box. 2 year olds just don’t won’t to be eating a full size pub meal if you know what I mean. So snacks for on the go and super important and I’m going to be posting a lot more content on what I throw together.

Last night I was making a meal which half-way through I was calling “Mother’s Regret”. Toddler was tired, I was tired, the baby was being…well, a baby, and the changeover to daylight savings wasn’t making anything easier. And yet here I was, making this fiddly ass dinner with thin, slippery bits of zucchini trying to stuff it with off blended sloppy pea and ricotta mixture when all off a sudden my oven starts sparking with the ferocity of a lightning god and I’m yelling at my partner to turn it off before the house burnt down.

The oven element was cooked and had started shooting plasma all over the place and my partner was telling me to forget continuing with the yet to be baked Cannelloni. No effing way – I was too far in and far too much effort had been expended in stuffing those damn courgettes. I told him to turn the BQQ on.

And so I finished up and got the tray in the Weber BBQ and….HOLY SHIT IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS I’VE HAD IN AGES. The homemade tomato sauce just took on a whooooole other level of flavours in the way that only BBQs can do. 10/10 will be doing again.

I love food to much to deny myself anything. In fact, the more I have fallen in love with food the HEALTHIER I have become. A love of food does not have to mean an unhealthy relationship with food - in fact it is likely to mean the opposite.

We live in a world where we are bombarded with information (a lot of which is not backed by science evidence). And a lot of this is@coming from industries that are trying to sell us the next quick fix to whatever our ‘problem’ is that they are selling us.

I’m going to say that again. Industries are not just selling us a product- they are selling us a problem they are convincing us that we have. For me right now I’m being marketed collagen supplements to play on the fact that I am turning 40 this year therefore my face is at risk of imminent downward decline. Last week it was magnesium oil for a better nights sleep. No amount of oil is going to make me sleep through the night with a 3 month old 🤪

My take on all of this- if you ARE going to buy the thing, make sure it is backed my EVIDENCE. But mostly, just try to not obsess or strive for perfection and find food or dietary pattens that give you JOY

There is a difference between setting Goals, and setting Expectations. I have plenty of goals I’ve set around this business, but damn do I go easy on myself with the expectations around those goals.

I posted a video yesterday telling the world my plan to launch either today, maybe tomorrow. That was the goal.

But last night I was up half the night vomiting (from dizziness of all things), and spent the second half of the night comforting my 2 year old and my 2 month old. And I’m juggling them solo while my partner is away for work.

Today my baby is grouchy because he went and had his vaccinations, only for me to get home and the power is out.

So what is the expecting now? To do nothing! I’m going to enjoy sitting on my rocking chair on the porch cuddling my babe and the business launch can just wait another day or two (or who knows, maybe more depending on what the world throws at me)

So my advice- set your goals, but DON’T let them take you away from what you need to do in the moment. Kids are chaos factories and figuring out how to parent while simultaneously figuring out how to run a business is enough to push the edges of your sanity.

My expectations around this business is that it will be HUMBLING to start with, and I’ll do my best to share the challenges with you that come my way. So if you are a mum looking at starting a business- follow me now as the biggest learnings are always at the start!

I had so much fun making these to shoot for my website due to go live IMMINENTLY! But I had to just be real quick because lil sticky fingers over here couldn’t be kept away.
I’ve noticed shops are now offering ‘fruit leathers’ as an alternative to roll ups (which I used to have as a kid and loved, but truely those things should not be sold as food).

But even the fruit leathers in the supermarket are still only 60 or 70% fruit with still a bunch of added flavours and sugars. Don’t be fooled by the packaging and the name!

I had so much fun making these to shoot for my website due to go live IMMINENTLY! But I had to just be real quick because lil sticky fingers over here couldn’t be kept away.

- Lowers blood sugar levels and can help lower cholesterol
- and can help support memory and the nervous system

*WALNUTS
-great sort of omega 3 and reducing inflammation (the only nut high in (ALA)
- supports brain and heart health
-Good for gut health

*APPLES
-good source of fibre and vitamin C
- contains pectin which is good for the gut
-nutrient rich

These vegetarian tasty morsels will be on the menu and available to order for your even soon!
